About

A small practice, twenty-two years along.

Halden & Vree was founded in 2004 by Margot Halden and Jan Vree, around the idea that a home deserved more care than the market usually gave it. We are still small, and still think so.

Founding Partner

Trained as an architect, Margot joined the brokerage world because she believed the homes she most admired were being sold with almost no feeling for their character. Twenty-two years later, she still writes the listing copy for every home she represents.

Jan spent a decade in private banking before real estate, which informs how the firm thinks about numbers, discretion, and what a seller actually wants to know. He leads negotiation and the financial side of every file.

The Practice

Why the firm has stayed small.

We've been asked, often, why we have not grown. The honest answer is that we have no interest in a firm where the partner is unreachable, or where the person walking through your home is not the person writing about it. So we have stayed at a size where we can still do the work ourselves.

We work from a quiet office on Herengracht, and a smaller one in Antwerp. Between the two, we represent around forty homes a year. That is enough.

"Small is not a limitation. For a certain kind of home, it is the reason you call us at all." — Margot Halden
